Institute for the Humanities Distinguished Lecture Series: From the Vantage of the Victory: New Research on the Nike of Samothrace

Apr 6

4:00 pm

Bonna Daix Wescoat is the Samuel Candler Dobbs Professor of Art History at Emory University.  Her research interests include Ancient Greek art and architecture, with a particular emphasis on the Archaic and Hellenistic periods.  Leading a team from Emory University and New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts studying the Sanctuary of the Great Gods on Samothrace, Wescoat collaborated on restorating the Winged Figure of Victory, the Nike of Samothrace, in the Louvre.  Restoration was not the end, but only the beginning of the work to be done on this masterpiece.
