Victor Coonin is the James F. Ruffin Professor of Art History at Rhodes College specializing in the Italian Renaissance. His work explores how art like Michelangelo’s David has shaped understandings of the physical world over centuries. A graduate of Oberlin College, Coonin earned a master’s degree at Syracuse University in Florence and his doctoral degree at Rutgers University. He has written for specialist journals including the Burlington Magazine, Metropolitan Museum Journal and Artibus et Historiae. In 2014, Coonin also published From Marble to Flesh: The Biography of Michaelangelo’s David (The Florentine Press).
